Get set to go West this Summer with one of the biggest trends of the season.
Cowgirl inspired but with a city chic edge; think less ranch-like and more Rodeo Drive.
Tom Ford, Versace, Chloé, Calvin Klein and many more wholeheartedly embraced this all-American aesthetic with stetsons, bolero ties and cowboy boots all making an appearance on the runways. Admittedly sharp tailoring and luxe detailing made it less wild and more wearable and there wasn’t a rhinestone in sight but the styling was definitely saloon inspired.
Singer, Selena Gomez proved the look could be both sexy and chic when she donned Versace’s Western-inspired bustier and leather cutout trousers for the recent Billboard Women in Music red carpet event.
Incorporate this look into your wardrobe with fringing, buttons, denim, suede and leather. Shirts should be buttoned to the neck, waists cinched and boots hitting the ankle or mid-calf. To avoid looking like a Woody from Toy Story wannabe forget about trying to wear the trend from head to toe and instead take Western inspired pieces and mix them in with your other style staples.
Remember Sienna Miller’s footwear of choice circa 2004? Not only was it the year that re-birthed boho but it was also the last time cowboy boots were cool. Until now that is. These rootin’, tootin’ boots aren’t just made for walking’ – they’re also back in a big way. Forget any line-dancing related fears though as the catwalk has a host of inoffensive Western inspired but oh-so-wearable styles to choose from. Topshop and Zara in particular have a host of options that are more summer festival chic than Dollywood. Promise!
Checks, embroidery, and studs are a more subtle nod to the look and if you’re still not convinced then keep it simple with a trusty saddle bag or add a buckle belt to your favourite jeans.
