NI Makeup Artist, Paddy McGurgan Selected For Global Film Festival, Cannes

Award-winning makeup artist and owner of Make Up Pro Store Paddy McGurgan has won the opportunity to work at and attend the 72nd International Cannes Film Festival 2019.

Entry requirements for the competition run by photographer, Patrick Moja, renowned for his work in famous locations around the world called for Paddy to submit a portfolio of his work that showcased his dramatic and highly skilled makeup looks. Paddy fought off competition from candidates around the world and was judged on his portfolio of previous work, impressing the panellists who he will now have the opportunity to collaborate with.

Rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous, Paddy will work alongside a team of stylists, designers and Luxembourg based photographer Patrick Moja with an all-expenses-paid trip to Cannes. The opportunity to showcase his work on the red carpet will be a first ever experience for him.

Paddy McGurgan said, “Cannes is one of the most famous social hubs in Europe, especially this month. As a makeup artist, I am challenged daily to be inspired, inventive and creative so this opportunity is incredible. I will be working with some of the best in the business to create a pretty spectacular star-studded look for one model, which I can’t say too much about just yet! Cannes Film Festival is one of the most celebrated film festivals in the world and it will be a privilege to be there with so many other creatives.”

Not only will Paddy be shooting on the idyllic French Rivera’s vast array of locations, but he will also be attending the iconic event on the famous Montee des Marches (Red Carpet Stairs) amidst over 2,000 photographers. Celebrities expected to attend the glamorous festival include filmmaker Quentin Tarantino whose highly anticipated film, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’  will premiere. Starring in the film and attending the event will be Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie. Models Gigi and Bella Hadid are planned to grace the red carpet.

Paddy will have the opportunity to attend an exclusive screening session of a film participating in the Palme d’Or competition, together with the most influential figures in the film industry. He will be in Cannes from 20th – 25th May whilst the festival is attended by more than 30,000 people from the world of cinematics.

We tried to get the inside scoop of how Paddy’s been preparing for the opportunity but he’s committed to keeping us in suspense. “I can’t say too much about the look I will be creating,  but the brief I have been given is amazing! I have followed the festival for a long time, and I am so excited to be a part of such an established fashion and film event. Working with an array of photographers, stylists and models as well as attending the Cannes Film Festival will be such an amazing opportunity to meet new faces in the industry!”

We’ll be eagerly refreshing our Instagram feeds for updates and trying our best to cope with the envy.
