Award season has officially commenced, as we saw the Golden Globes take place in LA last night.
Stars lined the red carpet in their glad rags, as they made a strong political statement with their all black garments.
Women and men in Hollywood all wore black to show their support to end sexual assault in the movie industry.
With our very own Saoirse Ronan and Caitriona Balfe topping the best dressed lists with their stunning gowns.
The Crown’s Claire Foy opted for a black suit and managed to stand out from the crowd of glorious gowns.
Kendall Jenner also walked the red carpet, which caused some confusion by onlookers. However, she looked absolutely stunning in her elaborate dress.
Eva Longeria and America Ferrerra showed off their blooming baby bumps on the red carpet.
And it wasn’t just the red carpet glamour that caused a stir, Will and Grace star Debra Messing, slammed E! for the pay gap between men and women. During a red carpet interview with the TV network’s anchor, the actress expressed her disappointment with the network.
Natalie Portman also took her opportunity on stage to point out the unfair gender balance in the ‘Best Director’ category. Despite the Saoirse Ronan led film, Lady Bird being nominated for ‘Best Picture’, the female director did not receive a nomination.
Despite this, Big Little Lies won big and The Handmaid’s Tale also took home some gongs. Both shows are women-centric tales, adored by fans last year.
Oprah wowed in an inspirational speech as she was honoured at the awards ceremony.
Speaking as she was awarded the honorary Cecil B DeMille trophy– the first black woman to receive the honour – she said: “Speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up!”
Here’s to the rest of the award season and here’s to the power of women!
