The Style Edit is saddened to report that international DJ Avicii has died at the age of 28.
His publicist, Diana Baron has confirmed that the Swedish DJ, real name Tim Bergling, died on Friday, April 20.
In a statement she said: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
Some of Avicii’s many hits included Hey Brother, Wake Me Up and most recently the single, Lonely Together, a collaboration with Rita Ora.
After headlining many festivals across the world the DJ announced his retirement from touring in 2016, citing health concerns. One of his last shows was in Belfast to a sold out crowd at Tennent’s Vital.
In a statement last year he said: “We all reach a point in our lives and careers where we understand what matters the most. For me it’s creating music. That is what I live for, what I feel I was born to do.
“Last year I quit performing and many of you thought that was it. But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.”
In addition to being a world class music act he was also a humanitarian and in 2011 he co-founded the charity, House for Hunger, an organisation dedicated to alleviating global hunger saying at the time: “You have to give something back. I am so fortunate to be in the position where I can actually do that. I feel lucky every day when I wake up and am able to do what I love and make a living.”
