Wow! Just wow! On Saturday the entire world watched in awe as Prince Harry finally married Meghan Markle – and what a wedding it was! The ceremony, the setting and, most importantly for us here at The Style Edit HQ, the dress.
Eyes across the world were drawn to Meghan’s custom-made Givenchy gown, designed by acclaimed British designer and the first female artistic director of Givenchy, Clare Waight Keller. With the frenzy around the bride’s first gown, and an equal excitement over her second dress designed by the iconic Stella McCartney, one might be forgiven for overlooking the applaudable attire of the royal wedding guests.
Here is The Style Edit’s ‘Best Dressed’ shortlist…
AMAL & GEORGE CLOONEY
Amal & George stepped out to attend the royal wedding, depicting ultimate #couplegoals. Amal sported a stunning golden-yellow Stella McCartney midi dress with capped sleeves and a fitted waist, topped off with a Stephen Jones fascinator. Her dapper other half looked the epitome of suave in a faultlessly tailored three-piece grey suit.
True blood star, and close friend of Meghan, Janina looked superbly seasonal in a burnt orange silk ensemble with a fringed cape. This was beautifully accessorised with a black disk hat and black stilettos – very elegant.
Oprah never fails to make an entrance and the royal wedding was no exception. The TV personality looked divine and delicate in her lace trimmed, two-tier Stella McCartney dress made of disposable viscose. Stylish and sustainable – Go Oprah!
ABIGAIL LEIGH SPENCER
The Timeless, Suits and Mad Men star proved she’s just as on trend as she is beautiful as she graced the castle grounds in a long sleeve, navy polka dot Alessandra Rich dress. The Peter Pan collar, button detailing and Abigail’s make up gave a definite nod to the timeless 1950s look.
Naturally, these two style icons come as a package deal and the Beckhams certainly didn’t stray from their classic style at the royal wedding. Victoria was a picture of elegance in a split-sleeve navy midi dress from her own line whilst David looked dashing in a Dior Home charcoal grey morning coat and trousers.
Quantico star and long time friend to Meghan, Priyanka, looked appropriately regal at the biggest royal event of the year in a custom Vivienne Westwood lavender suit paired with an angled Philip Treacy hat and Jimmy Choo heels. Priyanka’s glistening Dior evening gown later sent instagram spiralling into utter admiration of her undeniable style and beauty.
With just one beautifully tailored, blush pink Versace dress, tennis star Serena Williams showed the world that you can be both a sporting hero, and a picture of femininity. A stunning Bulgari necklace from the Heritage collection completed Serena’s look.
The mother of the bride was a true archetype of elegance, grace… and of the sheer beauty of pistachio green on darker skin tones. Doria’s beautifully tailored Oscar de la Renta dress with white flower detailing made her glow as much on the outside as we are sure she was on the inside watching her daughter marry the love of her life.
Peaky Blinders star, Charlotte Riley, graced the grounds of Windsor Castle on Saturday as she arrived alongside husband, Tom Hardy. Her black, floral print dress with ruffle detailing, paired with an intricate floral detail fascinator, gave her a vintage vamp vibe – unmatched by any other guest!
Sofia looked feminine in florals as she arrived at Windsor castle on Saturday with husband, James Blunt. She donned a heavily embroidered, colourful creation paired with a cream fascinator and statement earrings for a super seasonal look.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s sister looked as elegant as ever in a long sleeve, mint green floral dress with a pleated skirt by The Fold. Recent bride, Pippa, accessorised with nude Jimmy Choo pumps and a matching clutch.
LADY KITTY SPENCER
Lady Kitty Spencer turned many a head, and triggered many a comment on social media, as she looked utterly gorgeous in green on Saturday. Niece of the late Princess Diana, Kitty reminded many of her Aunt’s classic beauty as she looked effortlessly elegant in an emerald green Dolce and Gabbana dress paired with a matching fascinator and timeless jewellery and make up.
