Where to Travel To When The Cold Gets Too Much This January

It’s no secret how dreary and depressing January can be. Society’s expectations encourage us to wait until the February half-term – at least – before jetting off again after the holidays but why wait when you could start soaking up some 2019 sunshine right now?

Travelling in January comes with more benefits than shaking off winter blues. In the comedown of all the travel over the Christmas period, airfares and accommodation prices start to drop, airport queues decrease and you’ll have a lot of the place to yourself upon arrival at your destination.

While you may struggle in the knowledge of cutting down annual leave allowances further down the line, it’s worth it to have an exciting trip on the horizon to kickstart the year.

So slap on the sun cream and soak up the sun. Make a beeline for these tropical holiday locations this January

Miami, Florida

Miami evokes images of a sun-soaked tropical paradise and the reality isn’t far off. While January weather in the sunshine state sticks to temperatures between 23 and 26 degrees celsius, the heat avoids being too intense heat but still warm enough to test run SS19 trends. The party capital competes with top holiday destinations around the world with its golden beaches, luxurious hotels and status as one of the biggest party capitals in the United States. Take time out from all that sunbathing to admire Miami’s wealth of architecture, design and culture hubs and a surprising eclectic mix of foodie heaven.

Havana, Cuba

The temptation to escape to the Caribbean amidst the January chill is a little too much to handle. It’s tropical climate allows for warm weather all year round and while cooler during January, temperatures still average out around 27 degrees celsius. Enjoy the vibrant Cuban culture, colonial European architecture and delve into the region’s politically charged history during a colourful stay in Havana. Although not necessarily a shopping destination, fashion lovers will appreciate avant-garde Cuban boutiques selling local traditional goods including perfumes made from tropical flowers.

Mauritius, Africa

As an Indian ocean native, Mauritius is known for its blue lagoons, beaches and reefs with any amount of luxury hotels available for honeymooners and jet-setters alike. If you fancy taking your adventures further inland the area’s mountainous interiors include Black River Gorges National Park along with a multitude of waterfalls, hiking trails, endless sugar-cane plantations and meadows filled with tropical flowers and palm trees. Head to the thriving capital or Port Louis and immerse yourself in the Mauritian culture of the surrounding temples and mosques.

Marrakesh, Morocco

Marrakesh is a hub for mosques, palaces and gardens as well as the walled medieval city of the densely packed Medina. Explore the winding alleys, accepting and embracing the probability of getting lost among the thriving souks where traditional textiles, pottery and jewellery are available to purchase. It’s year-round warm climate makes it irresistible for January getaway.
